De-worm the mare just before foaling to minimise the contamination of the new foal’s environment.

Start worming the foal at four to six  weeks old, repeat every four weeks until six months old, then follow the adult worming programme.

Vital that foals are wormed as foals are susceptible to massive infestations of roundworms, which may physically block the intestines, and threadworms, which can cause diarrhoea and unthriftness.

Roundworms are passed from foal to foal so if possible don't graze foals on pasture grazed by foals and yearlings the year before.

Each group of young stock should be wormed 48 hours before being put onto clean pasture.

Do not use the "Equest" wormer on foals younger than 4 months.
